From the beginnings of art until now (I)

 In this entry we are going to start a journey through all the artistic movements that have marked the history of art. Each one of them has its own curiosities and characteristics that make each and every one of these artistic tendencies unique and special. 

ART AS A REPRESENTATION OF REALITY

Art as a representation of reality has existed for many centuries. It was a way of depicting people, events or important moments and those who did it with skill were held in high esteem. A highlight of this trend is the moment when the concept of perspective, introduced by the architect Brunelleschi, began to be used. It was also very important to capture the beauty present in the world. The church and the clergy played a fundamental role as they were the ones who commissioned the creation and improvement of the works. Thus, Da Vinci's Mona Lisa, Giotto's Myth or techniques such as charcoal, oil painting or frescoes are part of the realist movement. 

As a personal opinion of this artistic movement, I would like to highlight the number of emotions that a simple work of art is capable of transmitting, artists spent a lot of time and effort trying to provoke a response in the public. For this reason, I consider that realist art, despite being scripted and guided, is a source of emotions.

ART AS EXPRESSION AND VISUAL/AESTHETIC EXPLORATION

It is a trend that aims to break with the past and which appeared as a result of discontent and social changes (the bourgeoisie, the French Revolution, the Enlightenment and industrialisation had a great influence on this artistic movement). The word freedom has a lot to do with this type of art, here instead of being commissioned, artists began to create for pure pleasure. This is the origin of the Vanguards, Surrealism, Impressionism and abstract art. Some of the works belonging to this movement are Munch's The Scream, Picasso's Guernika or Van Gogh's Starry Night. 

From my point of view, I would like to highlight the talent of the works belonging to this current, given the explosion of emotions and feelings that the artists want to transmit to us. Now, these emotions are a reflection of the artists' ideas and beliefs, a reflection of freedom of thought that is transmitted to the public. Sometimes this freedom of expression even translates into unprecedented anguish when they want to portray unpleasant episodes of the time. Even so, it seems to me to be a fresh, innovative and very necessary trend.
